Aboriginal Beauties and Babies: The Stunning Photography of Bobbi Lockyer

What is Birthing on Country?

“The Birthing on Country (BoC) Project’s main focus is improving birth outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mother and babies, bringing together community members and health services with a goal to establish Aboriginal Birthing on Country models of maternity care whether it be Aboriginal Midwifery Group Practices, birthing in hospital with a known Midwife or stand-alone Aboriginal birth centres. This is in collaboration with Community members, support of health services, health professionals and State and National Government.” – Australian College of Midwives

One day, Bobbi Lockyer hopes to publish a book of her photography – images from all across Australia of indigenous people, specifically Aboriginal women and babies. Because, as she says, “being a mother has influenced my work and creativity in so many ways.”
