Some Antibiotics Linked to Miscarriage, Research Says

“Although antibiotic use to treat infections has been linked to a decreased risk of prematurity and low birth weight in other studies,” said Dr Anick Berard, “our investigation shows that certain types of antibiotics are increasing the risk of spontaneous abortion, with 60 per cent to two-fold increase.”

Dr Nicola Davies, a GP and former trustee of the Miscarriage Association, told The Telegraph: “The main risk this research throws up is for those women who don’t know they are pregnant.”

“Most of these drugs are drugs you wouldn’t prescribe if you knew a woman was pregnant.”

Once again it seems that if you are in the early stages of pregnancy, not only should you avoid these kinds of antibiotics, but even things like ibuprofen, which has also been linked to miscarriage.

If you are experiencing miscarriages, perhaps it is worth looking into the kinds of medications you are being prescribed or sold over the counter. If you are trying to conceive or think you might be the tiniest bit pregnant, avoid these medications at all costs. Knowledge is power.
