Why You Should Avoid Generic “Pregnancy” Teas

We asked what blends they would recommend for pregnant women in varying stages, seeing as each MaterniTea blend is designed with a purpose.

FertiliTea blend

Made using chasteberry, raspberry leaf, nettle leaf, aniseed and spearmint. The ingredients in this blend are designed to help stimulate the reproductive organs, balance hormones and help get your cycle on track. They have a very clear objective when it comes to fertility. As soon as you fall pregnant, those objectives change and therefore so do our blends.

Note: because of the potential effects on hormones ingredients like chasteberry/vitex should be avoided once pregnant. Some “pregnancy” teas include this, so be careful.

SereniTea blend

Made from a delicious and nourishing blend of organic honeybush, oatstraw, rosehip, vanilla bean and chamomile. Safe to consume right throughout pregnancy, this evening blend is designed to help calm the nervous system, relieve muscular aches and inflammation and helps expecting mothers relax for a better night sleep. Ideal to enjoy 30 mins before bed.

StabiliTea blend

Made from organic honeybush, ginger root and peppermint. It is designed to help relieve nausea and morning sickness in the first trimester. The antispasmodic properties of the ingredients help to sooth the digestive system, relieving stomach pains and nausea. It is also rich in antioxidants which help nourish the body and offer cell protection to both mum and bub.

CapaciTea blend

Made from red raspberry leaf, nettle, peppermint and spearmint. We only offer this tea as a third trimester blend because the raspberry leaf is designed to strengthen the uterine muscles and tone the pelvic floor in preparation for childbirth as well as assist with breast milk supply. It is most effective when taken in the weeks leading up to birth.

ProsperiTea blend

Top up your breast milk supply with this lovely blend of fennel, caraway, goats rue, anise and a touch of mint. Designed to stimulate milk production using well known galactagogues. Unlike many other lactation teas, they do not use fenugreek in their blend, its pungent taste can actually turn some babies off their mother’s milk and is best avoided for those with thyroid issues or nut allergies. The best part – unlike cookies and other lactation products on the market, ProsperiTea is fat free, carb free and sugar free so you can drink until your heart’s content.
