Education and the Free Spirit

I witness my son in play, and the time and focus he puts into his playing is amazing. He will play every part of all his toy characters. He will spend hours with his collection of cards, categorizing and counting them, breaking them down into different piles, analysing the data on them, which is the biggest, fastest, highest number, etc. Why? Because he loves what he is doing and he is given the time to complete what he is focusing on.

As an adult I am working with my focus and very often lack of it, my multi-tasking, running, accomplishing-too-much head is something I am relearning to slow down, for there is no focus in rush. So why rush!

My decision to home educate my son for a year and to progress him into a Montessori-inspired school, first of all part-time and gradually increasing when he was ready and he chose, was a decision my heart told me to.

As your heart will be talking to you about your child, it is for you to listen, and on spending time with your child, you will know the right decision for your family.

In my son’s school he is given time to absorb a subject; the numbers are smaller so he is known by the teacher and respected. He has loads of outdoor space to explore, he makes strong bonds with his classmates and teachers.

The decision I made was on my past experience, yes, but primarily what I felt and saw with my son. The main thing, as with all decisions, is to listen to your inner guidance, trust in that decision and go with that.

So how can your child be educated and remain a free spirit? By you listening to your guidance. Listen to that inner voice that is inside of you. That inner voice is your link to your heart and your child’s, it speaks the truth.
