What is your favourite part of being a birth photographer – what brings you the most joy?
When that wee baby is placed on their mothers chest, nothing actually beats that moment. Time stands still right then and there. The dad is overwhelmed, the mum is relieved and overjoyed, there are often tears from other support people, it’s just magical, it really is. Of course there are so many moments leading up to the actual birth and afterwards that are also so special, but that one moment just melts my heart every single time. And for me, to be able to capture that for those parents and that baby to look back on for years to come, wow, what a privileged position I am in.

What do you admire most about these women who invite you in to photograph their births?
I  really do admire families who make birth photography a priority for their birth. They value birth photography and want to capture, in my opinion, one of the most important days of their lives. They don’t just want the photos for themselves, they want them for their children, so that they can one day see their ‘birth day’, see how much they were loved on that day, and that birth is a beautiful event that isn’t to be feared.
