Concoctionist and founder of Citrus & Sage, Rachelle Brunton, uses a range of essential oils daily either by diffusing, applying topically, or taking internally on both herself and her young family. Over the last few years, Rachelle has been concocting certified organic and therapeutic grade oil blends to promote wellness through the use of essential oils. Rachelle has also studied and obtained recognition and qualifications from The Essential Oil Institute and has in return been able to share the amazing benefits of essential oils with others through her brand Citrus & Sage. We spoke to Rachelle to learn more about how she got started.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
I have always had an interest in aromatherapy and the therapeutic uses of essential oils.
I started concocting therapeutic blends a couple of years ago that were able to support my young family’s needs of reducing respiratory, anxiety and stress related conditions.
The Launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
I was asked to make a few blends for my children’s school Mother’s Day stall, of which I received an overwhelming response for the need of therapeutic products that were all-natural, non-toxic and safe for children to administer. From here, I worked with a graphic designer (The Brain Child) to develop my own brand and hence Citrus & Sage was created.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
As the business is still very much in its early stages, I consider myself extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to host a pop-up shop with West Elm Bondi Junction in 2017. I have also worked alongside podiatrists and have successfully concocted an antifungal foot treatment that is providing patients with amazing results from conditions such as tinea, athlete’s foot and stubborn fungal nail problems.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
I am currently managing two successful podiatry clinics that my husband and I established almost 10 years ago as well as trying to launch my own business Citrus & Sage to a broader yet selective audience on top of raising two young boys so, one could say that life is busy! However, the balance comes when I have the support of my family and friends. I make sure that I provide opportunities when required in our work day to have flexible hours so that we are able to attend such things as school events and meetings. I also prioritise quality family time away in the form of a holiday at least a few times a year on top of catching up with friends most weekends to keep us sane.
