The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Realising that everyone is different and no matter how much passion and love you put into something, it’s not for everyone. I remember the first review I got that wasn’t amazing. It was someone saying that they received their order from me (a change bag) and it was wrapped lovely and personalized but the bag just wasn’t for her – she didn’t like the style.
Even though it was nothing against my product, and she said my service, etc, was great – it felt like a blow to my stomach! I have learnt that I can’t take everything personally and to thicken my skin a bit. It’s hard – especially when I have put my whole heart into what I do.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I absolutely LOVE running my own business. The pros are being at home with my daughter, having flexibility to an extent with my hours and 100% doing what I love. But the stress that comes with it – making sure everything is perfect, stock control, finances, etc, can get draining, confusing and overwhelming at times. But that’s when I have to take a big breath of air, take a step back and then come back to it fresh and get the number and BTS stuff done and out of the way.
Making my dream come to life has been priceless and I thank my beautiful customers daily for loving my products and supporting my vision.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I plan to keep on growing my product range, putting my heart and soul into it and hopefully get to the point where I can have a little bricks and mortar store somewhere.
My absolute dream is for Bubba Bump to be a household name. I would love to pass on a wonderful business to my little girl when she’s old enough and to be able to say that she was a huge part of the inspiration for me to do this, and for her to be proud and inspired to achieve her own dreams.
