How to heal from a traumatic birth

You see, If you focus on and talk about ONLY the things that didn’t go the way you planned, expected, or worked so hard to orchestrate – you are missing the moments of magic that WERE experienced – and mama, there were moments of pure magic in your birth, I know there were.

In order to begin the process of healing, you have only to locate ONE miraculous moment of pure, powerful connection.

Can you do that? Can you remember just one moment of magic, of self trust, sacred connection or spiritual awakening during your birthing experience?

Take your time to feel into it – close your eyes, place one hand on your heart and one on your womb …. the moment is in there.

If you can’t locate the memory straight away, then make some time in the next few days to just be with yourself and tune in, dig deep and call on the special memory buried deep inside. If it matters, you’ll find it.

The moment your heart expanded wider and deeper than you knew was humanly possible.

Was it the divine moment your little one was placed upon your chest right after delivery? Perhaps it was the empowering moment when you dug deep to give one more fierce effort when you felt you could go no further? Maybe it was the profound moment when your eyes locked with your baby’s for the very first time? Or the heart opening experience when your lover held your gaze, showering pure awe in your direction, even though you were both scared as heck?

Whatever you decide upon – locate it and then hold that memory up to the light and let it expand. Let that single snippet in time expand so fully and brightly, that it casts out the shadows of your mind. Focus ONLY on that right now. Let the joy of it move you and awaken something sacred in you.

Remember this point in time as a Divine part of your birth.

Remember this as the most significant memory from the most significant day. The rest can fade, when you’re ready, and be stored towards the back area of your brain in a file marked “necessary learning”.

You no longer need to relive the story of trauma, it’s time to see it for what it was – a necessary learning experience.

Now, I am not simply suggesting, that focusing on only a magic moment from your birth will take your pain away. Nor am I suggesting that your trauma be minimized by a simple article on the internet. No.

What I am suggesting however, is that for you to begin the path of healing, you do not ONLY recall the horrors of your birth, but the wonders too. Because they’re in there and they deserve more airtime than the old tapes you’ve had running since your baby was born.

One moment of pure bliss and magic has the power to outshine many memories of woe and upset, if you allow it.

One moment of divine connection, has the ability to transform a story of heartache into a tale of heroism. And you are a freaking hero, you know that right? No matter how you gave birth, no matter the sequence of events or the outcome – I bow to you. Deeply, and with the utmost of respect. Growing and birthing a baby is not for the faint hearted. You are one incredible woman and your light is not diminished by ANY OF YOUR PAST EXPERIENCES. You are not damaged beyond repair nor are you broken or made less than by your birth.

The fierce Goddess within you was there on that day, no matter the outcome – She kept you safe and she will orchestrate your path towards healing too.

Forgive yourself. Forgive those involved. Forgive Mother Nature. Become a champion of perceiving life through the lens of love.

Let the newly found joy in your heart radiate out of your eyes like sunbeams – so that everyone you meet has the opportunity to experience your true light.

May these words offer you even just one moment of peace, because being a mama is hard enough, without having to carry around this burden too.

Lighten your load beautiful soul, deep peace and love, is your birthright.

After a recent miscarriage, I was meditating on the beach in Byron Bay, Australia. Out of the stillness of my grief, ‘Mama Goddess‘ – the business, was conceived. Later that year, she was ‘born’ and launched – making it my mission to bring light, healing and empowerment to women and mothers around the world.
