Nourishing Your Soul, Your Skin and It’s Sustainable

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

I am in a constant battle between my yin and yang. It’s a balancing act that I juggle daily, and sometimes I don’t always get it right.  There are days when I will spend more time on my family and others where I spend time working on the business. I think it’s important regardless of how busy we get to “check-in”. We always have our family meals together at the end of each day even though it can be hectic, and we keep Sundays free as our family day. Whether it be just hanging out at home or going on an adventure. We make sure that on Sundays, we do it together and use this precious time to really make it count and interact with each other. I think that no matter how crazy life can get if you intentionally put time aside for your family and make that time count, you are nourishing your most important relationships. The house is a mess, and daily life is chaotic, but we all pull together and make it work by supporting each other we create balance as a team.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

MUM GUILT: I had guilt that I wouldn’t be a good enough mum because I would have to share my time between family and business. I had to learn quickly that I need to let that crap go, and not be so hard on myself for taking time to build my business.

Learning not to listen to people: I have to admit I am a bit of a people pleaser.  My problem is that I listen too much about what people think. In the early stages of building the business I had lots of people tell me not to bother with this crazy idea because it’s a bad market, people aren’t buying things and where would I find the time etc. I started to doubt myself and my abilities. I felt like it really brought me down, and I lost a lot of confidence in myself. It took a while to build myself up again, ignore it all and keep going. But you learn all this on the journey, right?

Self-Doubt:  learning that sometimes I may be the only person standing in the way of myself. Self-doubt is the killer of dreams. I had to push through to get to the other side, but it was worth it.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

Pros: Having creative freedom, Having the best boss (myself), more time for my family, it’s more emotionally rewarding doing something you love. Being able to learn about things that I’m 100% interested in. I get to be a part of all aspects of the business and run it exactly how I want it run.

Cons: The workload is enormous, and the responsibility is all on you. If you have a sick day or not feeling your best, it won’t magically get done for you. It’s more than just showing up to your regular 9 -5. Some days are hard, and you are the only person that can pull YOU through.
