Our Gökotta Family

To get our brand out there, we started off with Facebook and then onto craft markets and baby expos. Although our business is predominantly online-based, I love attending regular markets and events as I get to meet so many wonderful customers and see the joy on their faces when they see our unique products. It’s also a great opportunity for customers to look and feel the quality of our garments. We have chosen 100% cotton for our products as it’s softer on baby’s skin and is more breathable. As parents of two very long skinny boys, we noticed a lot of baby and kids clothes weren’t long enough in the body, so it was a struggle to find suitable fitting tops. So we sourced various suppliers for our bodysuits, T-shirts and hoodies to make sure children’s lower backs would be covered on cooler days and months.

How did we decide on our business name? This is a question we get asked a lot. While we were brainstorming ideas for our name, we decided we would like to honour our family heritage in some way. My family is Welsh , however Welsh words are rather challenging to pronounce. My husband’s family originated from Scandinavia so we discovered the word Gökotta in our research. The word Gökotta means “the act of rising early in the morning to hear the birds sing at sunrise”. As a mother, this meaning is exactly what my days are like with breastfeeding my little ones until the wee hours of the morning. Although the birds in our garden are the laughing kookaburras!

This October, we are excited to be taking part in the famous Pregnancy, Baby & Children’s Expo at the Melbourne Convention Centre in South Wharf. We welcomed to the world our second baby boy in June, so he will be joining us at this event as our little assistant.
