The entire world knows it by now: New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is now mama to a beautiful baby girl, with partner Clarke Gayford. Congratulations from all of us here at The Natural Parent Magazine to the new parents!
Their wee girl arrived at 4.45pm on a rather magical day: Winter Solstice (Thursday 21 June 2018), which also marks the beginning of Matariki – the Māori New Year. What an auspicious date for this little pēpi to arrive. Matariki translates as the “eyes of god” (mata ariki) or “little eyes” (mata riki). (Read more about Matariki HERE).
We are all rather proud of our PM. She is breaking ground as the first prime minister to take maternity leave, and only the second elected PM to give birth while in office. Her partner Clarke Gayford will take over full-time parenting duties when Jacinda returns to office – proving once again to the world that dad’s don’t babysit – THEY PARENT. Wouldn’t it be great to see him rocking a beautiful baby sling or carrier – creating an incredible paternal bond with his pride and joy!
Above all, we know that this girl is in very good hands. Our PM has shown in such a short time that it IS possible to lead from the heart, to care for all members of society, and that change for good is always possible.
Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of strength and resolution. – Kahlil Gibran
This child chose some really amazing parents, didn’t she? And she’s got around 4.2 millions godparents/aunties/uncles who will always be cheering her on.
