Pregnant and Postpartum: Walking and jogging for health

Once you have passed the four- to six-weeks postpartum mark, after gradually increasing your walks and perhaps incorporating some stretches, you can begin working toward picking up the pace – especially if you were used to a more active workout before baby. But cut yourself some slack – there will always be mothers who have bounced right back into their gym gear super quickly, but everybody’s birth experience is different. It’s a good idea to get a Doctor’s approval before you begin more aerobic exercise. Also take into consideration the activity you are already doing – housework, supermarket shops, bouncing your baby to sleep, even carrying your baby is all physical activity.

If jogging is absolutely calling your name, then buckle your baby in and get exploring. Baby Jogger’s strollers have been the industry leader for the last 25 years and are world-renowned for their incredible quality, innovative designs, agility and simple functionality. They come in a variety of different options to suit your particular terrain or situation, whether you are in a city or out in the mountains. Of course, the Baby Jogger is fantastic for walking as well, if you want a break from babywearing or for whatever reason can no longer carry your baby on you. Lightweight and versatile, these are award-winning buggies purposely designed so that you and your baby can get out of the house and experience the world together.

Remember to always prioritise rest and recovery. Your body is not the same as it used to be and while that may irk you, try to see it in a positive light. You are new being in a new body, you have brought a fantastic tiny human into the world and you are choosing to respect your body and where it’s at. If you are using the right equipment, you should be able to get out into the fresh air and show your little one the world, a little bit at a time.
