The Path to Vitality For Pregnant and Postnatal Women: Create a Lifestyle Plan Unique to You

The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Launching any new business comes with its challenges. Especially being in a helping profession – I’ve always wanted to support and educate, not be an accountant, a lease manager or a web designer! But these are skills you learn and improve on as you go, and my exposure to some of these things in my previous career have definitely helped.

Getting my name out there and building trust with potential clients has also been a huge challenge. I think we all understand it will take time for a new business to grow, however the hardest part is consciously deciding that to make that happen, you have to be seen. You have to be confident in who you are and your message, and just click GO on that marketing button without worrying about who will see it and what will they think. I think many women struggle with truly being seen, and allow fear to hold them back.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

There are definitely pros and cons! The pros are being able to set my hours based on my family life, being in charge of how things are run, my marketing and my message – I don’t need to dilute anything of me to please others.

The cons are no sick pay, no four weeks paid holiday a year, loneliness, financial stress (no set pay packet coming in weekly), and having multiple roles in the business – and not necessarily feeling qualified for them all!

But in saying that, the thought of returning to work for someone else absolutely douses that fire in my belly. The way working with clients and changing their lives lights me up, and the fact that I can run my business whilst still enjoying time at home with my two toddlers – it truly is such an amazing gift, the beauty of which is not lost on me!

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I love doing varied things and in addition to continuing to see my amazing clients, I’m  currently working on an online wellness program with a PT friend of mine that also specializes in pregnancy and postnatal health. So it’s quite exciting to be working on something that women can access and tap into a supportive and educational program wherever they are in the world. The potential of being able to share my knowledge with so many women is truly electrifying!
