ThinkWise: Caring For Baby Skin Without Nasty Chemicals

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

Family comes first, business is secondary. Other than when we do markets and trade shows, everything gets done while the kids are at school or after they are in bed. It’s always a crazy juggle but I like that my kids know a little bit about my business and that I can include them in decision making, and they love stickering samples to make a little pocket money.

The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?

The biggest challenge is that people don’t know the risks they are taking using conventional mainstream products. The big companies are very good at marketing their products in a way that is convincing, but it’s not always honest. No one is doing the research to prove the risks, so we are basically all part of a big human experiment. If people keep buying the products then the manufacturers don’t have to change anything. By asking the hard questions and providing alternative products, I hope that for some at least there is more conscious thought about chemical exposure and protecting our little ones from the risks associated.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The biggest pros are doing something you are passionate about and the flexibility working for yourself offers you. The biggest cons for me are that it can be quite isolating and that I have to wear so many hats. Some of the hats fit great and some not so much!

Hopes and dreams: What next?

Our biodegradable and reusable wipes will hit the shelves later this year, which is something we are super excited about. We are looking to employ someone part time to help us with our growth plan and marketing – could you be that person?
