This Is Mastitis

She woke in the middle of the night – shivering and in excruciating pain as she tried to feed her son. By morning her fever had worsened, she was vomiting and in a really bad way. Neither she nor her family knew the signs of mastitis, and by the following day she was in hospital with sepsis, being treated with morphine and antibiotics to get the infection and pain under control.

One thing she repeatedly says – “Nobody ever taught me”.

The great thing is, Remi did manage to continue breastfeeding and has no plans to stop anytime soon:

“The WHO recommends breastfeeding for at least 2 years. I am still feeding my son at 1 year and plan to nurse until he self weans. Breastfeeding into toddlerhood is completely normal and natural,” she says in the comments.
