Trusting the Process – The Osteo Mum who pursued her Passions

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

I have made a conscious decision to always endeavor to put my family and my well-being first – especially with the demands of raising a toddler and starting a business whilst pregnant! I am incredibly lucky to have great support and a job that allows me to be flexible with my hours so I can keep that perfect balance going. Self-care is a message I try and relay to my patients; which can include anything from having regular treatment, to taking the time to nurture yourself or acknowledge the things in your life that are not serving you and your well-being.

The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?

The biggest challenge I overcame in my career, was getting to a point where I believed enough in myself to trust my abilities and put what I know into practice. The skill of an osteopath is honed over years of listening and putting hands on people and it takes time to truly trust those instincts and know that you are making a difference.

Osteopathy has a multitude of approaches and techniques that work in different ways to assist the body’s self-healing mechanism. I was lucky to have trained with an institution that offers a diverse and holistic approach to treatment as well as providing specialized training in the treatment of babies, children and mothers.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

Something’s always got to give. It’s not about having it all, it’s about going with the flow of things and listening to the needs of yourself and your business. There will be times when you are going full-throttle trying to get stuff done, and other times when you need to take a step back and trust the process. It is amazing being your own boss and having full control over the way things are run, but with that comes great responsibility! I have really enjoyed letting my creativity shine throughout this process.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

My dream is to create a thriving business and a central health hub in Tauranga, New Zealand, that can provide a place of support, learning and wellness to the whole family. My partner has been so inspired by seeing the clinic come to life that he has decided to study massage and work at the clinic too!
