Yoga: A little goes a long way

By Hannah Schenker

Yoga is for everybody.

Have you heard this little catchphrase before?

Yet all you see when you log on to Instagram are intense yoga shapes played out by sexybeautiful mega-flexible yoginis, and you understandably begin to think,

“Nuh-uh. Yoga is for flexible people. Bendy people. People wearing Lululemon head to toe. People at the beach. I don’t even own any Lululemon. Therefore, yoga is not for me.”

Well this is a fallacy. Yoga really IS for everybody, and if you haven’t yet given it a try, today is the day, my friends. Or maybe you used to, but your routine has flown out the window and it all just seems too hard – well why not roll out your mat with me today, from the comfort of your own home.

I am about to introduce you to MY new yoga teacher: Adriene. Adriene lives in my lounge and she teaches me for free! She has got me looking forward to getting on my mat every single day, which is new for me.

What makes her such an endearing and useful teacher is that her modus operandi is to only do what feels good, and that a little goes a long way. We don’t need to be in those fancy yoga shapes if we’re not there yet – those poses often take years of dedicated practice to achieve (or else those people were born pretzels). She’s also kinda silly, and I find myself giggling out loud, mid-asana.

Want to see what she’s like? Here is a really simple beginner session, to help you connect with your breath and your body. The benefits are endless – Google it. And if you finish this short session feeling better than before, I highly recommend trying out her 30 Days of Yoga Camp.
