Jennifer Dorenbusch believes that every mum-to-be should feel confident, supported and empowered as they transition to motherhood. After years of trying to conceive, and suffering heartbreaks along the way, she was finally blessed with the arrival of her precious daughter. During her pregnancy, she turned to natural alternatives to support her on her journey towards a positive birth experience, and it was the tools and products she discovered along the way that inspired her to start Mind, Body and Bub. They create beautiful, meaningful bundles to help mums feels empowered, prepared and cared for as they bring their babies into the world. Here Jennifer talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about the inspiration behind her business, the challenges she has overcome, and her hopes and dreams for the future.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
Becoming a mother didn’t happen instantly for me. It took a few years and heartbreaks until our daughter arrived into this world. During my pregnancy, I had many moments of fear and anxiety. But I desperately wanted a positive birth experience so my attention shifted towards natural alternatives to help support me during my journey to motherhood.
I learnt that pregnancy doesn’t only involve physical changes. There are also emotional and spiritual changes. Along my journey, I discovered and used many beautiful tools and found myself wishing that I could get them all in one place. I started Mind, Body and Bub because I wanted to share these tools in the hope that they would also help Mumma feel empowered and prepared to bring her baby into this world. I wanted to bundle them up to create meaningful gifts with a focus on mum rather than bub.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
From my own research while pregnant I had a fair idea of the products I wanted to stock, and the bundles I wanted to create. It is important to me to support small Australian Mum-led businesses, who create high-quality, natural and organic products and who are Eco-consious. After personally using and sampling products I introduced myself and my vision to my favourite suppliers and started to build my inventory and bring my vision to life.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
Building a community of like-minded people and sharing knowledge around birth and Motherhood. I am a huge believer that knowledge is power and I love that I can educate and support women during one of the most amazing experiences she’ll ever have in her life. I love connecting with other mums who are juggling family, work and running their own business, and the support that we give each other is really inspiring – we all genuinely want to see each other succeed!
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Having an active toddler and working part-time in a corporate role, it can be tricky to find the time to grow my business. I’m often found up late at night, but I am so passionate about what I’m doing and it feeds my soul so I wouldn’t have it any other way. I went into launching Mind, Body and Bub accepting that family will always come first and that everything else can wait another day.
