Here, Jessica talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about launching her business, how she balances work and family, and her hopes and dreams for the future.

The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?

I was inspired to create Nest Easy NZ after a conversation with a family member. I realised that I had a dream: an idea that I was not actioning. It was something I hadn’t shared with anyone or even voiced out loud before: one of those ‘aha’ moments!

The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?

At the start, I had quite a broad concept for the business, but over time, I narrowed my focus down to baby-related products. I knew the look, the vibe and the aesthetic I wanted to create and once I found my niche, it started to fall into place.

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?

The biggest breakthrough for me was when I decided to fully commit to the idea and to put myself ‘out there’. It was saying to others “this is me, my work, my passion” and once I got over my fear of failing, I found a lot of freedom and satisfaction.

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

Balancing work and family is one of my biggest challenges, like so many parents. It is something I often feel that I get ‘wrong’, but then I remind myself that there is no perfect balance. Some weeks seem easier than others.

The business is something I enjoy sharing with my two young girls – they have seen it grow from just an idea to something tangible. I work some of the week as a nurse as well, so my kids are used to seeing me in a variety of roles! It helps that I have a very supportive husband too.
