Inspired by the love and loss her mother experienced after the young passing of her father, it gave Chantelle Augustus a greater understanding of the important and purposeful role she held as a mother to her own two daughters. Her ultimate goal and purpose are to serve and assist others in following their path, integrating their shadow into their core consciousness and finding peace through reconnecting to their authentic self. She is truly passionate about sharing her journey and work with the world through Shine Your Shadow. Here she talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about how her own experiences led her to where she is today, the challenges she has overcome along the way, and her hopes and dreams for the future.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
My passion to inspire others through support has always been of strong focus, carving the path through my healing, empath nature.
What inspired me most to set up my business was that of a bittersweet kind. Driven from my own mother’s loss and love shadowed from the young passing of my father, I grew to understand the purposeful role I held as mother to my two beautiful, defiant daughters, Amelia (8) and Isla (5). Oh and Zahli, our cute, high need, anxiety-riddled fur baby and family (staffy) Staffordshire Terrier. To empower my daughters through my own shadow, into shine, I felt called to shed light on a growing need for new age mental health awareness.
Having gone through a tumultuous relationship breakdown, resigning from my career, and starting life a new in the midst of Covid and chaos, life left me feeling isolated, blue, overwhelmed and exhausted.
All the more determined, I reflected and put on my big girl shoes, pulled my s*#% together and looked to create a self-help toolkit fit to guide and assist others through their own ‘shadowed’ times with a ‘be kind to your mind’ way of surviving.
This unconditional love and zest for life empowered my own state of mind, allowing me to escape the mental entrapment and ‘burnout’ I had all too quickly fallen into.
Seeing a world that can be so easily scarce through lack of self-care, worth and loss to one’s self had me re-evaluate my own life and the power I held.
The importance of sustaining a mentally well and balanced life, supported through the many aspects of our lives, creates a society that is aware and strongly equipped to meet new age movement.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
To put it bluntly, it was chaotic!
The beginning of this new venture began quite rough. With no prior knowledge of business, entrepreneurship, tech or any social savvy wits, I literally put pen to paper and did all I’ve ever known: write. Journalling and I have had a relationship like no other. It’s one of the only places I’ve always felt freely in tune with life.
Upon launching, I attended endless hours of self-teachables via YouTube, resources from inspiring gurus and government incentive pages, many that were offering free workshops, training courses and seminars that I could readily attend – many pre-recorded which suited my time schedule perfect.
Many midnight writings had ignited my soul-minded material, having these come to life whilst the children slept. I underwent internal review and extensively worked late nights into the early hours – many spent in complete madness deciphering how best I would create my vision and put words into action.
This innovation was initially intended as a side hustle, then seeing the time and dedication it takes to succumb and succeed, this passion of mine soon led me onto big plans. This had me quit my 9-5 job as a social worker within a reputable Foster Care team working with vulnerable families and children within the welfare department. Prior to making this call to resign from work and dedicate my self solely to business, I found my own village in despair, working ridiculous hours, minimal support to assist with my girls and the school demands, mentally exhausted and my own mental declination, I knew I had to make a change.
I put myself and children before all else to give myself a chance to make a change, and follow the path my soul had yearned.
This path was long awaited, only I’d been delaying the call as each time I’d been too busy, “in fear” of my own power to make the transition. A call that had been yearning for a long time – yet I’d been in my own way the whole time.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
Each day brings new breakthroughs as I am still learning the ropes of this whole ‘soul’ trader/entrepreneur or ‘soulpreneur’ life as many refer to it. I think the innovation to my passion and heart has been the most significant. Seeing a community build through joint purpose and connection is such an empowering time as a business owner. Especially for myself, starting from scratch, building my “future” empire as a legacy to my own little leaders in the making and to a whole community of new age parenthood and life goers leading the way.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Balance is the next most important ingredient to morning caffeine. Well let’s be real, without morning coffee, I’d be completely out of balance and no work nor family would be attended to (jokes) hehe. But in all seriousness, setting out your day ahead of time – for me it’s writing lists upon lists (and mental lists) to prioritise the needs of the household. Once that’s in order and the children are ready, my business and scheduled work can take place.
In contrast to my business – Shine (Yang) and Shadow (Yin) is polarity of two opposing forces that are most likely to become fully engaged when they are balanced, committed and accountable.
