Amanda and Ala are the two mums behind It’s Clancy, Yo!. They have combined their skills and passions to create something they feel deeply and strongly about – happy, healthy kids, living their lives to the fullest in a world as natural and safe as it can possibly be. Here, they share their business journey so far with The Natural Parent Magazine.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
As mothers of tween-aged girls ourselves, and understanding that early habits are key to healthy skin longterm, we began researching natural skincare products formulated for young and delicate skin. We discovered there were plenty of products targeting men and women, as well as a plethora for infants and toddlers, but found so little was available for the in-between-ers. This is when we identified a gap in the market for safe, natural, effective, and visually appealing skincare products formulated for 8-14-year-olds.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
We shared a million ideas, goals and passions, and discovered that our ethos was in the same orbit, so we began developing an ideal vision of a business: how it would look, who we would work with, what our products would stand for, right down to how they’d smell. We set up the ultimate workspace and then we went for it!
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
Gauging the market really gave us the final push to launch It’s Clancy, Yo!. We identified that what our tweens and teens were lacking was a skincare range that excluded all industry nasties and was bright and fun! Our goal was to create a lineup of products that our kids would be proud to use and display, and spark their interest in starting a healthy skincare regime, early.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
What’s so unique about our setup is that we each bring very different skills and experience to the table, both adding unique value to every project. On the days that we have tuckshop duty, sick kids, or other family commitments, we tag the other in. It works like a well-oiled machine. Working from home is a real blessing as it allows the flexibility to be present with our family when we need or want to be.
