By Sarah Noble
2 babies in and I still feel like I should be back up and doing life already.
Running my business.
Having a self-settling baby, who sleeps for anyone, sleeps in her cot, takes a bottle and sleeps through. (That pressure alone is just NUTS!)
Being social.
Having my house work all up to date.
Blah blah.
My mind battles with itself:
You should do x, y, z.
You should start working again.
You should, should should.
Just fucking REST Sarah.
Just do nothing, it’s OK.
Go slow.
You don’t have to achieve anything but nurturing your baby right now.
Society screams at me to “bounce back”, “hustle”, there’s expectations for me, and for my baby.
I don’t want to do any of it.
Alyssa is my last baby.
I WANT to go slow.
I want to let her sleep on me.
I don’t want to rush.
I don’t want to do anything that doesn’t feel right.
What feels right, right now, is to sit with my baby and do fuck all other than care for her.
Work can wait.
Being social can wait.
Not being tired can wait.
Having a tidier home can wait.
As far as I’m concerned, I’m still in the 4th trimester.
Now, time to snuggle with my baby and watch something mindless on TV, till she hopefully stays asleep in her cot for more than 30 minutes!
This is the season I’m in, and I’m OK with it.
Let’s stop the rushing and meet ourselves where we are at postpartum.
