All-in-One Holistic Support for Prenatal Parent Prep, Parenting, Feeding & Sleep

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

The biggest challenge is charging for service, especially coming from mainstream healthcare where I have never charged anyone. I felt highly uncomfortable about this for a few years. I have done a lot of soul searching over the years in valuing my worth and this has made it easier to overcome this.

Another challenge was trying to establish myself within a clinic-style environment with other health professionals. Where others have repeat and return clients, our business doesn’t. So there’s pressure to have to make enough money to pay overheads. After several trials, I decided this was not the direction for me.

I have noted an increase in significant mental health issues with clients and this makes what I do a challenge from the perspective that it is emotionally draining. However, I have to say that working as a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) has always been quite emotionally draining as you are constantly holding space during one of the most intense periods of family life.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

In terms of pros, independence is a big one – I love being my own boss; I get to run my business my way. I get to give the care that families need with limited restriction, flexibility, and working from home so I spend more time with my family

As for cons, the administrative work, writing notes and reports (I prefer just working with families!).

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I’m really looking forward to working more in the area of Virtual/Telehealth Care so that I can support even more families than ever.  I’m also looking forward to supporting families who are going through surrogacy – this is a place close to our hearts because we are IVF warriors too! To support others to who have gone through fertility hardship is something I’m really looking forward to.
