7. Drink Relaxing Tea
Having a cup of mint, chamomile or lavender tea is a soothing way to unwind before bedtime. You could even throw a tea party and drink from special teacups and a kettle to make the ritual fun for your kids. Just be sure to stop drinking liquids a couple of hours before bedtime so you don’t have to deal with nocturnal bathroom breaks.
8. Take a Warm Shower
A hot, relaxing shower or bath can calm you down and wash away the day’s messes. Consider adding bubble soap, bath toys or calming music to this evening routine. This makes it more fun for children who might resist being made to take a bath. After all, they don’t have to stop playing – they get to play in the water!

9. Make Teeth-Brushing Fun
To make this nightly routine a fun activity the kids will look forward to, let them use whatever flavour of toothpaste they like. Buy toothbrushes in the shape of fun characters, or start a sticker chart to reward your children for practising good oral hygiene. Pretty soon, they’ll be asking if they can brush their teeth well before it’s time to do so.
10. Do Some Deep Breathing
Even if you’re not a meditation expert, you can benefit from taking slow, deep, relaxing breaths before bed. Breathe in through your nose until you feel your diaphragm rise as if you’re breathing into your stomach. Slowly exhale through your mouth. Repeat this pattern of calm, measured breathing until you fall asleep.
