“There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of them is roots; the other is wings”. ~ Hodding Carter
As conscientious parents, we want the best for our children. Our love for those munchkins is so strong and we want to facilitate the best possible childhood for them. ⠀
There are SO many phenomenal resources out there in every format possible, to help us achieve this goal. Naturally, we are building new skills in a very important role, the most important of our life. ⠀
Our love for those munchkins is so strong and we want to facilitate the best possible childhood for them. ⠀
I remember when I was in the midst of learning about this parenting gig early on, I overwhelmed myself with all the information. I brought my drive and determination and applied it to becoming the best mother possible. And, I was often disappointed with the chasm between what the book said I should be, and what I was able to deliver in the moment. ⠀
And then I read this quote. And it was like a big exhalation. So simple. A mantra of sorts to override all else. ⠀
It can be so helpful and important to gain new information and build new skills. As someone who has 100s of books and Audibles, I am a massive lover of learning. ⠀
Then I know, I need to rein it in. Time for space, and self-compassion.⠀
And I also know very well when that *point* arrives. The overwhelm. When I stop listening to my own wisdom and see my own strength. When I lose touch with the present moment because I am trying so hard to follow the plan in the book and my child isn’t following the plan. ⠀
Then I know, I need to rein it in. Time for space, and self-compassion.⠀
If you can relate, big hugs Mama. You are doing an amazing job. Roots and wings for your child, and for you.
