Characteristics and Traits:

Neurodivergent mothers encompass a range of diversity, including but not limited to Autism, Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia and sensory processing differences. What sets them apart are their distinctive neurological profiles, which often influence their experiences and approaches to motherhood.

  1. Hyperfocus and Intense Interests: Neurodivergent mothers often exhibit intense focus and passion for specific subjects or activities. This can lead to deeply engaged parenting, as they pour their energy and knowledge into their children’s lives, fostering a nurturing and educational environment.
  2. Sensory Sensitivities: Many neurodivergent individuals have heightened sensory sensitivities. As mothers, this can manifest as heightened awareness and responsiveness to their children’s needs. Struggles:

  2. Executive Functioning Challenges: Organisational skills and time management can pose difficulties for neurodivergent mothers. Juggling multiple responsibilities, such as appointments, school activities and household tasks, can be overwhelming and lead to heightened stress levels.
