Empowering women through nutrition and fitness

Mums do so much for other people and more often than not put ourselves last. Sometimes all you need to do is have someone have your back and help you find a bit of direction. I remember having a baby that wouldn’t sleep and our maternal health nurse sat down with me and we made a plan. They were all things I knew – this was my second baby – but I was wallowing in my own overwhelm. Having someone with perspective and training on my side made the world of difference.

That’s what I do for women. Help them find the solution that works for them. We are all different and we all need support sometimes.

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

Practice. I’m slowly getting better at it. I try to shut off work these days when the boys are home from school. It doesn’t mean I’m doing nothing, but it’s the time I potter around the kitchen and cook or tidy up. Just so I’m present and we can chat. I’m not perfect – my kids who are 9 and 11 know the WIFI password to 3 gyms in our small suburb because they get dragged to classes pretty regularly, but like everything we’re a work in progress.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Starting again in a new country and deciding what I wanted to do with my life next. And being brave enough to put myself out there and sometimes be a bit vulnerable to the world for my business. I find it’s much easier to be brave in front of strangers than people in my own community.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

I go through stages every now and then and wish I could just go to work for someone else, get paid consistently and leave it there at the end of the day. Sometimes you feel like you’re doing so much for little reward when it’s your own business, but really, I enjoy the flexibility and being creative.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

Pretty much just keep building my business online. If our family packs up and moves again for my husband’s work I’d like to be able to keep it all going. And I’d like to build a life of adventures and experiences, while proving to my kids that you can be whatever you set your heart on.
