4. Learn About Other Cultures and Perspectives
Another part of being a global citizen is learning about the world and your place in it. Helping your kid to be a global citizen requires making a conscious effort to teach them about other cultures and perspectives.
Books, movies and TV shows can help with this. Seek out media that teaches kids about diversity, other cultures, the environment and different parts of the world. Teaching kids some basic words and phrases in other languages is another fun way to get them interested in different cultures.

When teaching about perspectives, don’t forget to include your own. Talk about your background, community and culture and teach your children how these things are both similar to and different than others’.
5. Seek Out New Experiences
A fun way to teach kids about the world and global citizenship is to find new experiences. Traveling is an excellent way to do this, especially if you include some educational activities in your trip. You don’t have to go on an expensive trip though, to find new cultural experiences. Try cooking foods from different parts of the world at home or visit restaurants that serve those foods. Many cities also have cultural events that focus on different countries or regions. Try visiting a local nature center to teach your kid about the environment.
The world needs more people who think like global citizens, and thinking like a global citizen will benefit your kid. Raising your child to be a conscientious citizen of the world takes effort, but it’s well worth it. Incorporating the five keys listed above will help.
