The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Well actually, I nearly quit not long after I started. I had sorted out my class content, found a venue, sorted a price, and posted my first class and only 2 people signed up – it was free too! Haha. I was really gutted about it and saw it as a huge fail.
So, I cancelled my class. I had wanted and hoped for 6-8 couples to create a good small group environment. Then, after that, I just stopped. Stopped thinking about it, stopped posting on social media, just kind of gave up. And then one day, I decided to get the ball rolling again and I’m so glad I did.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Doing it solo is a blessing and a curse. I have some great friends and colleagues to bounce ideas off but it’s quite nerve-wracking to have your own thoughts and ideas put out there. It’s great not to have anyone to answer to or check in with though too.
And there are all the little things: sorting packaging, social media content, marketing, processing all the things. I am forever saying I am just a midwife, any help would be useful.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I have so many ideas of where Beyond The Bump could go. I’d love to support workshops with guests that specialise in an area that supports new parents. And for the other ideas, I think they’ll need to wait and for now. I’ll just continue working on getting these out to help support and educate more soon-to-be parents.
