Barefoot Parenting: Using Intuition, Modern Research and Ancient Wisdom

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

In regards to balancing work and life the following quote summarizes best for me.

Yin and yang can be thought of as complementary (rather than opposing) forces that interact to form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the assembled parts… ~ Georges Ohsawa (1931) The Unique Principle

I also try to not overschedule my life with activities including extra curricular activities for the kids. We focus on outdoor free play as much as possible. The yin and yang will always change but for me it is being able to adjust to the ebb and flow of life that I find is the key to maintaining some sort of balance.

The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Raising a young family whilst having my own business has been one of the greatest challenges I have had in my life. Trying to maintain the ever elusive work/life balance and at the same time remembering the importance of self-care. All too often we as mothers tend to put ourselves last and constantly put the priority of others ahead of ourselves. Learning to say NO was probably another huge challenge that I have overcome. Sometimes these magical words have the power to help you achieve more than saying yes.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

There are so many pros and cons of running your own business. The biggest pro for me is being able to create my own schedule that fits my life and that of my family. It is also seeing the health improve of my clients.
The cons including ensuring that your practice remains viable so that your staff have a job to come to everyday and book keeping.
Overall the pros definitely outweigh the cons or I don’t think I would stay in business.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I hope to complete my studies in Functional Neurology next year so that I can continue to have the latest information and skills to support families to the best of my ability. I hope to empower parents to be able to raise the next generation to become happy, healthy adults. I dream of seeing the current health trends change there direction for the better, and I will continue to empowering my own children to reach their full potential so that they too can live out their hopes and dreams.
