Driven by a desire to protect and nurture her own family, Rabail Mamsa embarked on a journey of discovery, researching, experimenting and educating herself about the world of skincare and beauty. Armed then with knowledge and diplomas, she founded Husn Beauty, with a vision to make clean and natural beauty products accessible to families, offering alternatives that are both safe and effective. They aim to raise awareness about the importance of natural and clean beauty, inspiring others to prioritise their health and wellbeing. Here Rabail talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about the passion behind Husn Beauty, the challenges she has overcome, and her hopes and dreams for the future.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
The inspiration behind Husn Beauty was born out of my deep desire to protect and nurture my family. Back in the winter of 2013, we were living abroad, and trips to the doctor had become almost routine. With three little ones and a baby, I was exhausted, and our health and wallets were taking a hit. My ex-husband and I finally decided we had to do something. We revamped our diet, focusing on organic and wholesome foods, which made a huge difference. But the turning point came one evening when my 7-year-old daughter innocently asked why I was using makeup that I wouldn’t allow her to use. That simple question sparked a profound realisation that it wasn’t just about what we put into our bodies, but also what we put on our bodies. That’s when I started researching and eventually creating natural skincare and beauty products for my family. Husn Beauty grew from this journey.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
Husn Beauty started out of my experiences as a mum, wanting the best for my kids. I had always been interested in beauty, dabbling in henna from a young age, but things really shifted when I became more aware of the harmful chemicals in everyday products. I used to be a makeup artist, so had extensive experience with using commercial beauty products, but knew all too well they weren’t exactly healthy for our skin. It was only after my youngest was born, I started learning more about natural alternatives, and where I had veered my family towards a healthier and more holistic lifestyle in regards to our diet, I also began making my own products at home for us to use. By 2020, after years of experimenting and getting certified, I officially relaunched Husn Beauty. In the peak of Covid where everyone’s focus had turned to better health, it was both a scary and exciting time. But seeing how these products positively impacted my family and others made it all worthwhile.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
The biggest breakthrough for Husn Beauty was when I realised that I could actually make clean, safe and natural makeup alternatives, all out of my kitchen cupboards! My own personal skin tints were initially coloured with cacao, turmeric and cinnamon, and beetroot powder played a big part in some of my blushes and lip products. We have beautiful colours in nature, that are safe for our skin, so why depend on artificial dyes and colourants? Of course, the products have come a very very long way since then (there may not be food ingredients in my beauty products, but the ingredients are all still just as safe and natural!), and being able to have, use and offer natural makeup has been the biggest success for Husn Beauty. Because when using our makeup range, it not only makes you look good, it also makes you feel good. It’s makeup, infused with skincare!
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Balancing work and family is definitely a juggle, but my kids are the reason I started Husn Beauty, so it’s all connected. They keep me grounded and remind me why this work is so important. I’ve learned to structure my work around their needs, making sure I’m there for them while also dedicating time to the business. What’s nice is that Husn Beauty isn’t just a job-it’s part of our lifestyle. I involve my kids in the process, whether it’s testing new products (my girls love being my testers, especially for new makeup shades), labelling and packaging, or just sharing ideas, so it feels like we’re all in this together.
