The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Too many to count! The biggest for me though was receiving rejection from people that don’t align with my vision. Batt Bin is not just a safe product but it’s a culture shift for people, and those types of innovations take time to evolve. It’s about building accountability in families to be better role models for our kids in not just battery recycling but in all things to do with our environment. It’s about tapping into the safety aspect of batteries, and teaching families that it’s OK to have button batteries in the house – just have responsible and safe ways of disposing them.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Pros are definitely having full control over the creative side of the business and the final word in all aspects of the business. The cons of running a business would have to be the costs associated with investing into the business and doing it all in my spare time. It has been all consuming, but as it’s something I am passionate about and believe in, it doesn’t seem so bad.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My absolute dream for Batt Bin would be to find them in all your major supply chains that sell batteries and then see one in every household. Just like everyone has a rubbish bin, everyone should have a Batt Bin. I would also love Batt Bin to be thriving to help financially support my family, and move to being my full-time job.
