Cheeky Lactation Treats to Nurture & Nourish Mums from the Inside Out

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

The biggest challenge is facing the fact that I cannot do everything like I used to in a day, especially as a new mum. I am facing that fact daily. Some days I set out with one task to do on my to-do list, and I must roll it onto the following day’s list. Who would have thought being a mum would be so busy?! Honestly, the biggest challenge is finding balance and making peace with the fact that I cannot get everything done in a day. For a self-proclaimed perfectionist, this is the hardest. I am slowly learning not to stretch myself so thin to ensure I do not burn out. I do struggle daily to let go of perfectionism, however I am learning what I do need to prioritise. My family, my partner and my son are the utmost important aspect of my life. If I am feeling the effects of the mental load of motherhood and running a business, they feel it too. The ever-evolving circle of life.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The amazing thing about running your own business is of course that you are your own boss, cheerleader, and confidant. The downfall is that you are also all these things for your business, and you never switch off. I love the flexibility of setting my own hours and working around my family, however I am forever trying to find the time to ensure a healthy distribution of my time.

It truly is amazing establishing your own business from the ground up and watching it grow – seeing all your ideas and visions coming to fruition in front of your eyes whilst ensuring your business remains aligned to your own values and morals. I love to create and help others and I will continually drive my business in this direction. The most heart-warming moments for me come from customer feedback and knowing that my product has helped a new mumma in a positive way.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I have so many dreams and ambitions for The Milk Mumma Co. As I grow, learn, and evolve as a new mumma and a new business owner, so do my goals and vision. They are ever evolving and changing. One day I would love to see my products on the shelves of health food stores and other retail spaces, and I am currently working behind the scenes for this to occur. It will happen. However, it is a slow process.

I would also love The Milk Mumma Co to evolve into a collective space for all women experiencing the motherhood journey. A place not only for my products but one where mummas can come together as a community to learn, grow, and support each other. This part is so important to me, as becoming a new mum with a limited support base around me, I know how isolating yet magical the journey can feel at times.

In saying that, we do have some exciting new products in the pipeline that I am getting ready to launch on our online store. Oh, and another thing, yes, I am a dreamer, haha. I once read that “Dreams only remain dreams when we fail to act on them”. Drawing on my nursing background, I am also hoping to use this as a stepping-stone into the lactation consulting space, to continue to support mummas in the breastfeeding and postpartum period and truly give back and empower new mums. Watch this space.
