Ingestible Essential oils can be added to smoothies and foods. Basil and Oregano are amazing for an Italian feel. Cinnamon is tasty for cakes. Try a ‘Wild Orange Smoothie’- just mix the ingredients below in a blender and enjoy:
Ingredients
5 drops Wild Orange Oil (Ingestible)
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 cup frozen mango
1.5 cups pineapple juice
You can engage in play with children with oils and make ‘Perfumed Play Dough’:
Ingredients
2 cups of flour
2 cups coloured water
1 cup salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
5 drops essential oils
- Combine all ingredients aside from the essential oils in a large saucepan and mix together.
- Place on a medium heat and use a spatula to continue to mix until a ball is formed. If you overcook, it can dry out.
- Remove from heat and cool on parchment paper.
- Once cool, add five drops of your favourite oil and knead the oil into the ball.
- Store in an airtight container or fridge to preserve between play sessions.
These are just a few ideas, but there are countless ways that you and your family can enjoy essential oils. The key is normalising and validating, at an early age, and accessing the natural gifts that the earth offers us.
If your child or you have a specific health concern, it is always wise to consult with a healthcare professional prior to the application of essential oils.
