The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
The biggest challenge was not knowing where, or how, to advertise my business and the services I offer. With some research, I’ve found some great support groups who have helped me to start to tap in to the right networks.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The pros are definitely being able to spend more time with my children, being able to choose the hours I work and the type of assignments I accept. The cons are that there’s no guarantee I’ll have regular work coming in and it can also be very quiet when it’s just me at home working!
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My dream is to grow my own business, take on new clients and continue to do what I love – that can be helping a student compose their first CV or helping another small business owner with their invoicing, data entry and end of month accounts. Just the knowledge that I’m helping improve someone’s life is priceless. I hope one day to be able to hire staff to assist me with my clients! I would also love to work with more families who have children with disabilities – if you’re new to the journey, even knowing where to source sensory items from or how to go about hiring caregivers can be very overwhelming. Because I have firsthand experience with these issues, I have a good knowledge base and to help other families in similar situations would be amazing!
