Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
This is by far my biggest downfall! I work whenever I get the opportunity which is whenever my baby is asleep. Recently, he started doing a couple of mornings at daycare a week which has been incredible. It lets me get so much done in 4 hours and means we now have time to spend together in the afternoon before bedtime and then it’s work time again.
I balance it now by trying to go to bed when Rohan does around 6 or 7pm twice a week.
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
I feel like the biggest challenge I have overcome is my own self-doubt. Proving to myself that I am more than capable of doing this, that I can draft my own patterns, that I can sew well and that I am just as good as everyone else.
This has absolutely been tested when I go through periods of extremely limited sales, but these are also the times I best connect with my customers because I have the time to really chat and show them my life on social media.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I love working from home! I’m a homebody and I’m forever grateful it means I don’t have to drop and run at daycare because I can be flexible with my time and move things around to suit what my baby needs from me.
Unfortunately, this means I find it very difficult to ‘switch off’ in the evenings and at the weekend.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My big goal is to take this full time! I am so blessed to finally be doing something I genuinely love and I would like to continue that by growing both within and outside NZ.
I hope to further extend my current range and add a couple of products I’m currently working on behind the scenes too, to really solidify my ‘brand’.
