Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Oh good question! I’m not going to even try to explain how I balance the two because I’m not even sure how I do or if I do. On the plus side, I don’t feel out of balance so I guess that’s a positive. But that’s not to say I don’t get overwhelmed. I most certainly do! I won’t sugarcoat it – It’s definitely a juggle and I rarely get everything that needs to be done, done! I’m pretty sure there are a lot of mums out there who can identify!
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
I pushed through the fear of launching and just launched! Well maybe I had a big push from my husband! I took action like getting my gift box designed and made, ordered stock, put together a website, got my socials up and running and put some ads out. I put some skin in the game so I just had to keep going. It’s been scary and it’s been fun. I’m learning a lot as I go and I’ve still got miles to go and many more challenges to overcome.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The definite pro is that I get to do what I enjoy and that’s putting gifts together and then giving them to someone. I help others do the same and I just can’t help but share in their joy of giving. Most of the time, I get so excited that I send a photo of the gift hamper to the purchaser because I think its really important that they get close up and personal with their gift. Its been especially important during recent times because many people have been unable to see their family and friends. So I think seeing their actual gift helps them connect with the gift and therefore “be there” with their loved one from afar.
The con I would say is keeping up with all the bookkeeping and administration. I know I said I work in accounting but I’d rather make gift hampers!
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My hopes and dreams are to keep growing the business into the best eco-friendly gift hamper store out there!
