The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
CaliWoods has faced numerous challenges, from educating consumers about the importance of sustainability (and myself about growing a business!) to navigating the complexities of expanding into new markets. Our unique lens that CaliBaby captures is the different options for parents looking outside the realm of disposable nappies, chemicals, and throw-aways. I think most parents naturally gravitate towards more natural products when they have a baby. Our challenge is educating on other options when it can be such an overwhelming time for new parents! The key is in simplicity.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Running a business offers more flexibility and it’s a beautiful process seeing the reflection of your energy head out into the world. Seeing an idea hatch into a physical, expanding resource for many people around New Zealand has been incredible. Lots of pinch-me moments along the way! However, it also entails significant responsibility, including financial risk and the need for continuous innovation, learning, and adaptation to stay competitive.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
Other than continuing to educate and inspire, and expanding our product offering, CaliWoods and CaliBaby aspire to reach beyond New Zealand in the coming years. With a proven business model and a diverse range of products, we are well-positioned to continue sharing our organic, low-tox, and sustainable mission to more families.
