Babyhood: This is Just For Now

…he is only going to be this age and this little once in his entire life and once in mine. So why am I wishing it away?

Babyhood is such a sweet, special time that most of us can barely remember as adults. It’s a moment in time when you fully rely on another for your complete and utter existence and you build your ability to form secure attachments. It is also an extremely unique, exhausting and demanding time as a parent but thankfully it’s also fleeting!

It might seem like forever right now, but I know it will be gone in just a blink of an eye.

I bet if you asked your mum, she too would barely remember those teething days or those high pitched screams in the middle of the night. But I bet what she does remember is how little you were. How perfect you were as a newborn, how cuddly and how beautiful you were to her in every way. I bet that she remembers cuddling you in the wee hours of the morning, holding your little hand and shushing you to sleep in her arms.

Those are the special, sweet moments of parenthood that are happening to me right now and I some days I need to remind myself it is just for now.
