Are you keen to clean up your body, home and planet by choosing a low tox lifestyle? Not sure where to start? Blooming Mandala is here to help you do exactly that. Started by two sisters with a passion for clean living and good health, Blooming Mandala is where you will find affordable products that provide more natural and eco friendly alternatives to chemical-laden ones, and information and education that allows you to make more informed choices. We spoke to co-owner Jane Wood to learn more about how they got started.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
We wanted to set up a business that provided a resource to help families learn about the toxins we are unknowingly exposed to everyday and provide information on how they can start reducing their exposure. We feel true wellness encompasses all aspects of life and should be achievable by everyone, no matter their social status. We want to show people clean living can be simple and doesn’t have to cost the earth.
We got started on our low tox journey during our own search for better health. We both have endometriosis and conventional medical treatment of hormones, popping pain pills and multiple surgeries wasn’t cutting it. We starting thinking there has to be something else to this, there has to be a better way to manage our health.
We feel true wellness encompasses all aspects of life and should be achievable by everyone, no matter their social status. We want to show people clean living can be simple and doesn’t have to cost the earth.
During our search for answers to our condition we became aware of how many toxic chemicals are in the products we bring into our homes, including our food and even baby products. Many of these chemicals are known hormone disruptors and carcinogens. Most people rightly assume that if it can be purchased it must be safe, when in actual fact most chemicals used in the home have not been tested for negative health effects and almost none in combination with other chemicals. A whopping 72% of chemical exposure occurs within our own homes.
We were so overwhelmed by the scary amount of chemicals that are so prevalent in society today. Over the years we have realized that there are so many small easy things that can be done. Clean living can be simple. We started Blooming Mandala with a vision of sharing this and providing information to people who want to take control of their families health and empowering them to start reducing their toxin exposure.
The Launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
We are sisters and had been discussing for some time what sort of business we could start that we could work around our families and that would allow us to do something we were passionate about. We had spent so much time searching for information and piecing together research, we wanted to share what we have learned. We also realized a holistic approach is best and rather than just being all about toxins, it’s a way of living. After much debate, Blooming Mandala was born. So far we have focused on products, recipes and information that allow people to get started on their own low tox journey with minimal cost. The sharing of information to make other people’s journey easier is our focus.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
The realisation our first website wasn’t allowing us to achieve the vision we have for Blooming Mandala was a light bulb moment for us. So we are in the process of rebuilding it with the hope its completed by the time this is published. We wanted to build a community that provided information and support to people who wanted to start a low tox journey. To be able to share how it really is a journey in the true sense of the word, and that everyone needs to start where they feel it is most important. We have both grown and changed a lot since we started our own journeys and how we started making positive changes in our homes is not necessarily how we do it now. Without starting where we did, we could not have made it to where we are today. It’s really important people find what resonates with them and start there.
