The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
My journey into the world of Naturopathy began with a deep-seated belief that nature holds the key to our healing. This conviction led me to explore the wonders of herbal medicine and nutrition, igniting a passion that has only grown stronger over the years. The pivotal moment came when I attended an open day at the Southern School of Natural Therapies. From the very first step I took on campus, I felt an undeniable connection to the principles and practices of natural health. The vibrant community, the wealth of knowledge and the holistic approach resonated with me deeply. I knew then that this was my calling.
In my practice, I focus on understanding the unique health challenges faced by mums and their children. By offering services such as GI Map testing, Hair Mineral Analysis and utilising pathology, I delve deep into the root causes of health issues. My approach is holistic, combining the best of traditional wisdom and modern science to create personalised treatment plans. Through my consultations, I strive to provide a supportive and nurturing environment where families can find the guidance and tools they need to thrive.
This passion for naturopathy is not just a career for me; it’s a lifelong commitment to enhancing the well-being of the community I serve. I am excited to continue this journey, helping more families discover the healing power of natural medicine.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
Setting up my business, Alysia Chick Naturopath, has been a labour of love.
I am driven by the desire to empower mums and children to achieve their best health through natural means and wanted to provide this service to my community. After working at a pharmacy for 1 year, I jumped into my own business headfirst with only a logo, a desk and a dream. The rest is history!
Having experienced firsthand the profound impact of naturopathy on my own life, I am passionate about sharing this gift with others. Whether it’s supporting a mum to regain her energy and vitality, helping her have a safe and healthy pregnancy, or helping a child overcome common health issues, my mission is to make natural health accessible, effective and tailored to each individual’s needs.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
The biggest breakthrough for my business came due to the pandemic. When the world closed down, I transitioned to offering online consultations. There were definite teething issues, especially when I moved my clinic from a rented space back to my home office.
This shift into an online clinic allowed me to reach more clients but also provided the flexibility that many mums need. The ability to connect with families from the comfort of their homes made naturopathic care more accessible and convenient. Additionally, incorporating advanced testing like GI Map and Hair Mineral Analysis significantly enhanced my ability to understand the root cause and treat health issues more effectively, leading to better outcomes and increased client satisfaction. This combination of accessibility and advanced care truly transformed my practice and helped me make a more substantial impact on the health and well-being of mums and children.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Does anyone truly have the answer to this? When you have a young family, it can easily feel like there are things pulling you in all directions, especially when you desire to be a stay-at-home mama with your little ones. For me, that has meant having less of a client load whilst my children were young, and more time at home with them. Now they are both at primary school, my workload can increase, but I stick to working with clients during school hours and prioritising time with the kids after school and on weekends.
I also work some nights doing admin tasks, marketing work and other business activities that go on behind the scenes. My health is really important to me, so I do try not to stay up late and only work a couple of nights a week. Try is the key word; it doesn’t always go to plan.
Outside of work, I’ve found that prioritising my own health and the health of my family is key to being able to run a successful business and also feel like you are doing well at family life. It’s hard at times, and it doesn’t always work the way that you want it to, but putting in the hard work for the things that matter is always worth it.
