With over twenty-five years’ experience in early years education, Allie Hudson, founder of Mums the Word, has built a career rooted in compassion, understanding and a genuine desire to help others. From her beginnings as a practitioner and nanny to her role as a manager, she has always found joy in supporting parents and children alike. Driven by her passion for guiding mums through the ups and downs of parenthood, she created Mums the Word – a space dedicated to offering real, practical advice and a supportive community where she offers non-clinical guidance, listening sessions, peer-on-peer support and zero judgement. Here she talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about the inspiration behind her work, her biggest breakthrough, and her hopes and dreams for the future.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
For over twenty-five years, I have worked in early years, as a practitioner, nanny and manager – my favourite aspect of the job has always been helping people. I loved the rapport I built with parents and especially loved seeing them achieve and overcome parenting obstacles. I have also always had a passion for working in early years and supporting children, and I wanted to set up a business dedicated to doing exactly that: offering advice and guidance based on my own real-life experiences. Because at some point in our lives, we all need someone to help us.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
I started off by building my own website and promoting it on as many Facebook pages as possible. Alongside this, I launched my own private Facebook group for mums – a safe space where people can post, comment and share freely without any judgement.

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
One of my biggest breakthroughs was seeing my website appear in Google search results. It took some time and patience to get there, but when it did, my first customer reached out and also became a member of my Facebook group.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Juggling work and family life while starting up your own business is no mean feat, but to keep this as balanced as possible, I work around my work hours and when the children are at school or in bed! I’m a night owl and find I can be more productive of an evening.
