What are mitochondria?
These are the tiny powerhouses which are found inside every cell of our body, except for red blood cells. Here are just a few of the things they do:
- Function as a digestive system in each cell
- Transform food and oxygen into energy
- Produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate)
- Generate chemical energy (similar to energy from a battery)
Super fuel for your cells – Purple Rice
Purple rice consists of polysaccharides, polyphenols, and antioxidants. Purple rice is widely acknowledged and well researched as a powerful, super functional food product- the perfect fuel for your mitochondria. The polysaccharide sugars fuel the mitochondria with energy, while the polypeptides act as building blocks for healthy new cells, and antioxidants fight off free radical scavengers.
History of Purple Rice
Centuries ago, during the Tang and Sung Dynasties, purple rice was reserved exclusively for royalty, due to its exceptional medicinal properties. It was recognised that the consumption of purple rice would ensure optimum health and longevity. On especially auspicious occasions, the emperors would share the coveted dish with their consorts and warriors on the eve of battle.
Highly revered, purple rice was not allowed outside the palace walls. Consuming purple rice without the expressed consent of the Emperor was punishable, & because of the restrictions placed on its consumption, purple rice was commonly known as Forbidden Rice.
Modern medical research studies confirm that the ancient Chinese knew a good thing when they found it. Nutritionally rich purple rice contain high amounts of anthocyanins and antioxidants which provide the rice its unique deep purple colour. In fact, purple rice contains more antioxidants, ounce for ounce, than blueberries, contains more fibre and vitamin E (another essential antioxidant) and less sugar than blueberries.
What is alfa PXP Purple Rice? PXP begins as specially selected strains of heirloom, organic, highly nutrient dense rice. It is grown in soil that is free from pesticides, herbicides and chemicals in the Siam Valley, Thailand – which is one of the most unadulterated and fertile lands in the world.
