The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
My biggest challenge has been my own healing. It takes a lot of courage and vulnerability firstly to reach out for help.
Once I began doing the work, I realised how important it was to talk to people, openly saying I was struggling and needed help. It’s like a snowball effect – once one mum starts opening up about what she experienced and the effect it has had on her, more and more mums do the same thing.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Definitely a huge pro is that I get to choose my own working hours, my business can work around my family and not the other way around, and I get to work at my own pace.
I think the biggest con for me running my own business is trying to keep up with the social media content. I’m not hugely tech savvy or artistic in any way. Luckily, I have come across a great app to help me out.

Hopes and dreams: What next?
My biggest hopes and dreams are for every woman in New Zealand to have access to amazing maternal mental health care and it not costing an arm or a leg, and I plan to be as vocal about this as I can and advocate where I can.
My ultimate goal is that I will be out of a job because our birth care will be supportive and solely focused on allowing our mothers intuition to shine through during birth.
