But how does a business fit into all of this?
A couple of years ago, I got to a point where I would spend the majority of my cycle curled up in bed with a hot water bottle in absolute agony. I could no longer tolerate tampons and had to switch to pads. It was from there I decided to try reusable menstrual pads for the first time and I haven’t looked back. While they aren’t a complete fix, my menstrual flow, cycle length and pain levels all significantly decreased. Better yet, they are a sustainable, eco-friendly and cost-effective option for managing what really is a basic human need! While I am no expert and I don’t know if the changes to my cycle were directly related to my switch from disposable to reusable menstrual products, the more women I talked to the more I found that also experienced similar affects. I wanted to be able to help others make the switch and so Boutique Behinds was created.
After many long months and multiple product trials, learning how to create a website and run a business, Boutique Behinds launched in December last year, offering reusable products for the whole family: reusable cloth nappies for bubs, cloth menstrual pads for mum and reusable swim bags for dad and the kids. There is something for everyone. However, none of this would have been possible without all the support of our friends, family and everyone out there who trialled our amazing products and supported us from the get go.
While I’m not yet a ‘Cloth Mamma’, I have kept a stash of my favourite cloth nappy prints so that one day when our time comes, I will be able to be use the nappies designed by Mamma and be the stay-at-home mum I have always wanted to be.
For now, I will continue to chat to all the amazing mums who have supported me at Boutique Behinds and follow along on their journeys of parenthood, with the hope that one day soon, we will join them.
