Auckland Duo Helping Parents Create Magical Spaces and Play for Kids

The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Keeping as many things made in New Zealand is important to us, however that does come at a cost. Sourcing suppliers and having items made here means fantastic quality, but is also time consuming and not a cheap process. We’re constantly working on new ideas and our preference wherever possible is to manufacture items here in NZ. It’s a challenge we take on gladly.

Mastering social media marketing is new for us as well, we’ve learned that being avid users of Facebook and Instagram doesn’t make you a marketer! We’re loving getting our heads around this, and it’s a constant learning curve.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The biggest pro is working in your dream job, on something you feel passionate about. We love the flexibility, and being in charge of our day. That day can be hectic, but it’s so rewarding when we see pics and hear from happy customers loving their SPACEY purchases.

Committing capital is always scary, and it’s not an instant return – we’re aware that SPACEY will take time to build up to what we want it to be, and in the mean time balancing pressures of everyday bills is a skill. But we’re in it for the long haul and can’t wait to see where it takes us.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

Where to start!? We’d love to see a physical SPACEY store one day. We love interacting with our customers so it’d be great to take that to another level. We have so many ideas for cool new storage and play pieces, we will roll them out as we can.

To learn more and to see the full range, visit the SPACEY website, and keep up to date with SPACEY on Facebook and Instagram.
