As a new mum caring for a colicky baby, Cherie Caulfield went in search of a baby log book in which to record his daily routines – to see if they could identify what might be causing his discomfort. After a fruitless search, she set out to create her own, and OH BABY Co. was born. Designed in Australia, their baby log books are not only a useful tool, but a gorgeous keepsake that families can cherish for years to come. As time goes on, this precious log book will remain a beautiful reminder of the extraordinary journey that is parenthood. Here Cherie talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about how she launched the business, the biggest challenge she has faced, and her hopes and dreams for the future.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
OH BABY Co. was inspired by the arrival of our first son. When he was a newborn, he suffered from colic, so we started recording his daily routine and schedule to see if there were any common factors causing it. We searched online for a baby log book but there was nothing on the market in the way of keepsake log books. And so, OH BABY Co. was born!
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
OH BABY Co. started with the design of the Daily Baby Log Book. Once we were happy with the design and layout, we sourced samples from a number of suppliers to ensure the books were of a high standard. We wanted the log books to not only be a useful tool, but a beautiful keepsake that parents could cherish for years to come, so it was important that they were manufactured using the highest quality materials.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
The feedback we have received since launching OH BABY Co. back in September 2023 has been extremely positive. Seeing my vision come to life and holding the finished products in my hands has been nothing short of amazing!
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Owning my own business means I can work around my family’s needs from my sun-drenched office in beautiful Newcastle, NSW. I have a supportive partner who is also my business partner and together we are able to balance work and family life.
