The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Mindset. Believing in myself, and having the confidence to back myself. Before launching Baby Ball, I spent countless hours and nights at my desk, behind the computer researching products, pricing, suppliers… so much research. It got to a point where I had done all the research, I had all my numbers lined up, and I’d created a solid business plan. What was missing? The confidence to dive in, head first and just give it a crack. It was scary, and overwhelming and stressful. But it’s been a whirlwind journey and I’ve learnt A LOT! It’s been harder than I thought, more time consuming that I probably realise, or care to admit, and it’s pushed me out of my comfort zone many times. It challenged my mindset, to look for opportunities and be more open to learning new things from other mums around me who are also killing it in business. I’ve found support networks and communities I didn’t know existed.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The pros are that you can set your own hours and days, work between naps, the groceries, trips to the park, the nappy changes and just doing mum life.

As for cons, it’s harder to “take time off” – who will package and send out the orders if I want to go on holidays, or if I am unwell?

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I’m going to keep going, keep searching for new products, new ideas, and new ways of doing things. My dream is to grow the collection, particularly into the wooden toy space, and offer a range of wooden, aesthetically pleasing toys and gifts for a range of age groups.
