The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Initially, I had to overcome a lot of opposition from some around me who didn’t believe I could grow the business into anything more than a hobby, and through the years, I have come across many other small businesses copying our designs, which can be incredibly heartbreaking, but most recently, in January of this year, we were experiencing one of our busiest weeks to date right when I was due to have our third baby boy. It was an incredibly stressful time, but we are so grateful to some of the most special people in our lives who stepped up and helped us out, particularly my friend Tash (who has her own busy small business, Happy Boys Co.) who dropped everything to come up and help create and pack orders while I was in hospital. I had a c-section and was in hospital for 3 days, and got straight back to work the evening we came home!
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
We absolutely love the flexibility it gives our young family, to be able spend time with our children, not just on the weekends but during the week too. It has brought about a much happier married life, with the mental load of children, work and home being split more evenly between us, but on the flipside, we can never really escape work. We certainly don’t clock out at 5pm, if ever!
Hopes and dreams: What next?
We have so many plans for Salt & Pine Store! We can’t wait to continue growing and evolving, especially to the point where we can take on employees to help us out and create a secure future for our children and ourselves. Stay tuned!
