The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Scheduling my posts ahead of time with a social media scheduling tool has been a lifesaver. I’m currently using Later, and it’s so easy! On a good day, I can pump out a month’s worth of content in a few hours, and then on a not so good day, when the last thing I want to do is think about social media, I’ll get a notification that a post was successfully published and feel a bit more productive.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Pros: When we get that first great shot in the shoot and I can feel myself and the subject suddenly relax and fill with euphoria, and we just know the rest of the shoot is going to be great. We both go home full of excitement- the client for the beautiful memories we’ve captured that they are yet to receive, and myself for having spent time doing what I love. Also, I can do most of the work on my own schedule. I’m always learning, there is always something new to discover and constantly improve.
Cons: Social media.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I love building connections with my clients and collaborating with other artists. A current goal is to collaborate with sustainably minded designers to curate a beautiful wardrobe filled with ethically sourced and sustainably made clothing and accessories for my Rock n Roll Mamas and Rock n Rollers to access during our shoots. This will be mutually beneficial for all, providing our local designers with exposure and beautiful images of their pieces, and allowing my Rock n Roll Mamas and Rock n Rollers more opportunity to dress up and express themselves. Another goal is of course, to have my photos in Vogue one day.
